Medical Weight Loss Program

Obesity is one of the most common medical conditions in the US, affecting one third of the population. The excess body weight that comes with obesity can greatly increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, cancer, sleep apnea, liver disease, anxiety, and depression. While obesity was once thought of as simply being caused by overeating or a lack of physical activity, it is turning out to be heavily influenced by hormones and metabolic dysfunction. Reduced calorie intake and exercise can certainly be helpful in reducing body weight, but often simply eating less or working out more isn't entirely effective at producing weight loss.

We offer a comprehensive, customized, sports medicine approach to weight loss that is focused on optimizing your whole body metabolism and health. Our program takes many of the same principles of metabolism optimization that are used in high level athletes, and effectively applies these to patients with obesity, whether or not they are able to participate in exercise. There are many factors that contribute to obesity, and we address all of these factors when coming up with your treatment program.

We combine the following into our program:

  1. Highly effective weight loss medications
  2. Detailed metabolic and lab analysis to determine the underlying causes of your obesity, and to come up with a customized diet plan
  3. Personalized weekly health coaching to teach you about nutrition, healthy eating, and be your support system on your weight loss journey
  4. Complimentary energy boosting Vitamin B12 shots at each office visit

Comprehensive Type 2 Diabetes Program

Our Comprehensive Type 2 Diabetes management program is designed to help patients dramatically lower their A1C and improve their overall health and wellness. As sports medicine physicians and providers, we use our background in endocrinology, nutrition, and exercise physiology to deliver a highly effective treatment program that can quickly bring down A1C levels. Our team has published several scientific papers on diabetes, and we bring this expertise to our patient care.

At the first appointment, patients meet with a provider who will assess their overall health and optimize the medications they use for diabetes. There are several newer medications available for treating diabetes which are highly effective and covered by most insurance, but we find many patients we work with aren't on these medications. Patients then meet with a health coach who will analyze their diet and provide easy and affordable meal suggestions to improve blood sugar control. Our health coaches will design a comfortable, easy exercise program that can help muscles remove excess sugar from the blood. In addition to substantial improvements in blood sugar and A1C, many patients also improve their strength and mobility, and lose weight. Our staff check in weekly, keeping an eye on your progress, and helping you every step of the way!

If you have diabetic neuropathy, or joint problems that keep you from being active, we can also manage this for you.

Patients who follow a similar plan as outlined above can often drop their A1C by several points, in some cases returning to non-diabetic A1C levels.
